Company History

This institution was established in 1956 as “The National Milk Board” under the purview of the Ministry of Agriculture. It commenced operations with a single Factory in Colombo commissioned under the Colombo Plan.   Today it boasts of a wide network of milk collection, production and sales centers administrated through out the island and continue to contribute towards the enhancement of the rural economy while providing the much needed nutrition to the entire nation.   In 1986, the “National Milk Board” was converted into “Milk Industries of Lanka Company Limited” as a government owned company. After that in 1998 “Kiriya Milk Industries of Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.” took over the administration of “Milk Industries of Lanka Company Limited”. Later in 2000, “Kiriya” was taken back by the government and in 2001 it was named as “Milco (Pvt) Ltd.”, which now stands as a 100 % government owned company.

Mr. Y.G.I. Saman Kumara

Mr. Kumara is currently serving as the Chairman of Milco (Pvt) Ltd. Mr. Kumara Graduated from University of Ruhuna. He also holds Post Graduate Diploma in Community Development from University of Ruhuna, Post Graduate Diploma of Archeology from University of Kalaniya, Master dgree specialized in Spatial Planning, Management and Design from University of Moratuwa and a master degree specialized in Science in Real Estate Management and Valuation from University of Sri Jayawardhanapura. He has served as the Vice Chairman of Ceylon Electricity Board, Chairman of Hadabima Authority, Managing Director of Ceylon Fisheries Harbor Cooperation.

Mr. H. M. M. Bandara Herath

Mr. Herath has served as the Working Director of Land Reclamation Corporation, Managing Director of Remark Holdings, Managing Director of Doodu International (Pvt) Ltd, Managing Director of National Youth Services Ltd. Further, he has served as a board member of Sugathadasa Stadium and Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

Mr. L. H. M. S. Shantha Kumara

Mr. Kumara has over 18 years of experience in government service. He has served as the Chief Management Service Officer for Wariyapola Agriculture School and has served for Divisional Secretariat offices of Kotawehera and Bamunakotuwa.

Mr. Arosha Rodrigo

Mr. Arosha graduated from University of Warwick, U.K. He is also an associate member of Association of Charted Accountants of United Kingdom and ICAEW (Institute of Charted Accountants of England & Wales). Further, he has served as a board member of Paddy Marketing Board, Atomic Energy Board, Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation as well as National Food Promotion Board.

Mr. G. S. M. Kelum Gunathilake

Mr. Gunathilaka graduated from University of Sri Jayawardhanapura. He has served as a producer to the Independent Television Network (ITN) News and has served as a media secretary to several government ministries.

Mr. K. Chamin Dinesh

Mr. Crishantha graduated from University of Sri Jayawardhanapura. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Technology from University of Colombo, Post Graduate Diploma in International Economics from Australian National University, Australia and a Master degree specialized in Financial Economics from University of Colombo. Mr. Crishantha is currently serving in Department of External Reforms and serve as the treasury representative board member of Milco (Pvt) Ltd.

Mr. K. Chamin Dinesh

Mr. Dinesh holds Higher National Diploma in Engineering (HNDE) in field of Mechanical Engineering. Currently he serves as the Mechanical Engineer of Road Development Authority. He has also served as Transport Manager for Ministry of Ports and Highways and Maganeguma Road Construction and Equipment Company.

Mr. G. A. Aruna Prasanna

Mr. Prasanna holds Advanced National Diploma in Governance, Democracy and Public Policy. He has also served as a board member of AMR Distribution (PVT)LTD and as the market manager of IDAPZ (PVT)LTD.
