Welcome to Colombo Milk Factory (CMF), a proud initiative under the “Colombo Plan” by the New Zealand government, established in 1956. Originally known as the “Colombo Central Dairy,” CMF has evolved significantly over the decades, becoming a milestone of dairy production in Sri Lanka.

Our History
CMF began its journey with the production of pasteurized milk in bottles, marketed under the brand “PASCO.” Today, we've transformed our offerings to include the popular “Ela Kiri” pouch milk, reflecting our commitment to meet the busy lifestyle of our customers. With continued support and investments, we've expanded our product range to include sterilized milk, butter, ice cream, and yogurt over the time over the time . Our modern yogurt machines have enhanced our production capacity, ensuring we meet the growing demands of our customers.

Our Facilities
Nestled on a sprawling 14-acre site in Colombo 05, our factory boasts an impressive processing capacity of 50,000 liters and employs a dedicated workforce of 207. We proudly produce over two hundred thousand cups of our popular branded Highland set yogurt daily, along with 12,000 liters of various ice cream verities. Our famous Highland sterilized milk, known as “Kalkiri,” continues to be a favorite among our long-lasting consumers.

Several other essential departments, including our central stores, transport division, milk procurement office, project and engineering division, and quality assurance research & development division, also situated with in this Colombo factory premises.

Factory Manager

Mr. U.G.A.M.A.R.K Athapaththu

Mr. Athapaththu serving as factory manager to the MILCO (PVT) ltd, Ambewela milk factory. Mr. Athapaththu Graduated from university of Peradeniya with special degree in B. Sc Agriculture, specialized in animal science. Then he completed his masters in same university as M. Sc in animal science. In addition to that he following MBA at post graduate institute of agriculture, university of Peradeniya. Mr. athapaththu holds 17 years of experience in MILCO as Extension office, Asst. Regional Manager, Regional manager, Deputy Factory Manager in many provinces of the country with local and foreign exposure relating to dairy processing development. .

Assistant Manager Engineering

Mr. W.M.S.C Bandara

Mr. Sumedha currently serving as assistant manager engineering at spray dried milk factory Ambewela. Mr. Sumedha holds a B.Sc. Engineering degree and specialized in field of chemical and processing. He having 8 years’ of working experience in engineering divisions at Ambewela and Digana milk factories.

Quality Assurance Executive

Mrs. P. A. Nirosha Damayanthi

Mrs. Damayanthi currently serve as Quality Assurance Executive. She possessed a certificate of quality management and quality systems at SLIS. She having 28 years of working experience at Ambewela milk factory in the field of quality assurance.

Production Officer

Mr. U.M.A.P. Kumara

Mr. Kumara currently working as a Production Officer in spray dried milk factory Ambewela. He completed B. Sc. special degree in food and nutrition in a wayaba University of Sri Lanka and having previous working experience as production executive in a pelwaththe dairy. He having more than 10 years’ working experience on dairy products, possess and on milk supply chain.

Acting Production Executive

Mr. Damith Sameera Perera

Mr. Sameera serving as Acting Production Executive at spray dried milk factory Ambewela. He holds an Advanced diploma in Food science and technology from the Aquinas university collage. Mr. Damith having 17 years’ of working experience in production process control and quality assuarance.

Assistant Manager HR

Mr. W.A.A. Akila Nawaratne

Mr. Akila serving as assistant manager human resource and administration at spray dried milk factory Ambewela. He holds "Professional Qualification in HRM" (PQHRM) from IPM. He Having 21 years of experience in head office and Polonnaruwa milk factory.

Acting Stores Executive

Mr. H.M.B.A.B Hellarawe

Mr. Arawinda currently serving as acting stores executive at spray dried milk factory Ambewela. He completed certificate course of stores management at ISMM and following HND in SLIATE on Accountancy. He is a member of AAT Sri Lanka. Mr. Arawinda having 16 years’ of working experience in the field of accounting and warehouse management

Assistant Accountant

Mr. W.M. Nawarathne

Mr. Nawarathne serving as Assistant Accountant to the spray dried milk factory Ambewela. He completed chartered Intermediate level at chartered accountants of Sri Lanka. He is a member of the AAT Sri Lanka. Mr. Nawarathne having 19 years of working experience in the field of accounting.

Assistant Manager QA

Mr. J. C. Wickramasinghe

Mr. Jayantha currently serving as Assistant Manager Quality Assurance at spray dried milk factory Ambewela. He graduated from university of Ruhuna with B. Sc. (Biology Stream). He possessed 15 years of working experience in the field of quality assurance at Ambewela and Digana milk factories.

Quality Assurance Executive

Miss. T. M. Darshini Karunadasa

Miss. T. M. Darshini currently serving as Quality Assurance Executive at spray dried milk factory Ambewela. She completed a diploma in laboratory technology in chemistry from institute of chemistry ceylon, Diploma in food science & technology from aquinas university college, Diploma in laboratory technology from university of Peradeniya. She having over 27 years of experience in Digana, Colombo & Ambewela milk factories in the field of quality assurance.

Acting Engineer

Mr. Ishara Gallage

Mr. Ishara is currently serving as acting engineer for spray dried milk factory Ambewela. He completed B. Eng. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bolton, UK and Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education. He is an Associate Member of IIESL and IMechE. He has also served as an Engineer in KASE Engineering (Pvt) Ltd and 3G Consultants (Pvt) Ltd.
