Established in 1968 and famously known as the "Condensed
Milk Factory," the Polonnaruwa Milk Factory has been
serving the nation for over five decades
Officially opened by Prime Minister Dudley Senanayake, the
factory initially made its mark with the well-known and
"Parakum" brand of condensed milk, operated under National
Milk Board and in 1986 it was handed over to Inter
National Dairy Products Limited, a venture launched by
Nestlé Lanka, until it transitioned to Milco (Pvt) Limited
in 2008, with a grand reopening led by Minister of
Livestock Development, Mr. C. B. Rathnayake
Facilities
Today, the factory has significantly expanded its product
offerings. While it continues to produce the Highland
brand of sweetened condensed milk, it now also
manufactures a diverse range of dairy products, including
curd, yogurt, ghee, and liquid milk using advanced UHT
technology. In 2013, the facility upgraded its
capabilities to promote liquid milk consumption across the
nation.
Operations
With a processing capacity of 75,000 liters of milk daily,
Polonnaruwa Milk Factory sources high-quality milk from
the dry zone and northern areas, collected through
farmer-managed milk via milk collection centers. Our
dedicated team of approximately 173 employees works in two
shifts, six days a week, ensuring top-notch production
standards.
Looking ahead, we aim to further diversify our product
range, including plans for ice cream manufacturing to meet
the growing demand in the North Central and Northern
regions. Join us in celebrating our commitment to quality
dairy products that nourish and delight our community.
