Nestled in the scenic Nuwaraeliya district at an elevation
of 6,000 feet, Ambewela Milk Factory has played an
important role in dairy excellence since its inauguration
on January 17, 1974, by the late Hon. Hector Kobbekaduwa,
Minister of Agriculture and Lands. The processing in the
factory began initially with just 5,600 liters of fresh
milk daily and producing a mere 100 to 150 lbs of milk
powder.
Our Facilities
In 2017, we underwent a significant refurbishment,
introducing a fully automated milk powder processing plant
and a butter-making unit to meet the growing demand for
our high-quality products. Our milk powder, made
exclusively from fresh, pasture-fed Sri Lankan dairy
cattle, is crafted using cutting-edge technology that
rivals any imported brand.
Operations :
Today, the Ambewela Spray Dried Milk Factory is a modest
and advanced facility, boasting a state-of-the-art
processing capacity of 300,000 liters of fresh milk daily.
Our dedication to excellence is highlighted by our ISO
certification, originally attained in 2006 and now
upgraded to the latest ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety
Management Standards.
With the ability to produce up to 37 metric tons of milk
powder and 3,900 kg of butter daily, Ambewela operates
year-round in two shifts, employing a dedicated workforce
of 197 individuals.
Our factory is not just a place of production; it's a
scenic destination for both local and international
visitors. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and views
of the upcountry railway and mountains, Ambewela Milk
Factory invites you to experience the beauty of our
premises and the richness of our heritage.
